St Saviour’s Cemetery c1834 – 1957
Cemetery Street Goulburn

St Saviour’s Cemetery is at 40 Cemetery Street. It was the first cemetery of Goulburn, originally known as the Episcopalian Cemetery. It became the Anglican Cemetery when other denominations began using the General Cemetery in Mortis Street. It is under the management of the Anglican Diocese of Canberra and Goulburn. The earliest recorded burial is for 3 year old John Weakley in 1831. The cemetery was not consecrated until 1858 and was formerly closed in 1937. A few burials were carried out after this date in family plots; the last burial being in 1957 for Violet Hutchison. This cemetery is the resting place of several Mayors, Reverend Sowerby, the explorer William Hovell and First Fleeter Mary Martin who died in 1843 and was buried in a family plot.
